Treasured FACES leader for over 30 years
passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015.

Lil
Silberstein took the helm as Executive Director of the San Jose office of the National Conference of Christians
and Jews (now FACES) in 1970, where she grew the organization from a staff of one to a team of 42.
Moreover, she developed a volunteer contingent that reached 100 strong and an industrious and
passionate Board of Directors that grew to 60 members.

As a result of her hard work and dedication, Lil Silberstein compiled an impressive record of community
achievements, earning her deep respect and admiration from all corners of this diverse region.

Lil
brought key programs to San Jose, such as Camp Anytown, U.S.A. (now Camp Everytown), Green Circle
(now Building Connections), diversity workshops, and Holocaust Studies, reaching thousands of
students.

Still today, her vision of justice and an inclusive community guides FACES’ work and mission.

We will miss her dearly.

Pat Mitchell, SFCC
Executive Director
